The Mom Who Turned Her Daughter In

15

We are all used to the game. A local restaurant posts blurry CCTV footage online. A shop owner begs for help tracking down shoplifters. The internet becomes a detective force, combing through grainy frames for a suspect.

But what if the face on the screen is your own?

In Lincoln Nebraska that exact scenario unfolded. A mother watched security video from a local produce stand and saw her 15-year-old daughter. She didn’t cover for her. She picked up the phone.

She called the police.

The target was Kelly’s Produce. Four teens tore through the place in the early hours of June 27 breaking windows causing chaos leaving behind more than $5000 in damages. Owner Kelly Abbott had enough glass shards to fill an entire dumpster. It was a mess. A expensive one.

The teens even showed their face the next morning driving past in a red van windows rolled down laughing at the destruction.

Owner Kelly Abbott shared the footage on Facebook asking for any identification leads

The internet responded fast. Nearly 900 people commented. The tone was sharp.

One user wrote it would be understandable if hungry kids took a watermelon. But smashing property? That’s different. Unnecessary.

Another user simply said the kids need to pay. Then added the part that got the headline.

“Kudos to the mom”

She did the hard thing. She let the consequences land. Most of us wouldn’t.

How many of us would protect our kid first and ask questions later

The police identified all four juveniles thanks to her tip. The mom walked away from that call knowing the justice system would handle it. Not her. Not anymore.
